ORLANDO, Fla. – Florida soccer lost 3-0 to UCF Monday afternoon at the UCF Soccer and Track Stadium.
Â
New Day, New Contest
This match was originally scheduled for 6 p.m. Sunday. Lightning caused multiple delays for Sunday's match.
Â
Due to those delays, the match was pushed past the NCAA time span allowed (match cannot be restarted past a three-hour span from original start time). The match was played again Monday from the beginning as per NCAA rules and Sunday's first-half results were not retained.
Â
UCF held a 3-0 lead Sunday at halftime off goals from Stefanie Sanders,
Samantha Chung and Kristen Scott. Sunday's match needed to reach 70 minutes for officials to rule it complete.
Â
Monday's Scoring:
UCF's first goal came when Dina Orschmann was fouled in the box. Zandy Soree successfully converted the penalty kick in the 10th minute.
Â
The Knights scored twice in just over a two-minute second half span. Sorree scored her second goal of the day from 10 yards off the assist from Stefanie Sanders in the 70th minute. Then Sanders got a goal of her own in the 72nd minute, tucking the ball in at the near post.
Â
Injured Gators:
Injuries have hit the Gators hard of late.
- All-Southeastern Conference performer Parker Roberts underwent surgery for a foot fracture Friday morning
- All-SEC center back Rachelle Smith was taken off the field for the first time this season in the 72nd minute in Friday's match at No. 3 Florida State. She tore the anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee and will be sidelined for the remainder of the season.
- Senior Mayra Pelayo was carried from the field Sunday after a tackle hit her right shin area – the same area she had surgery this past spring.
- Smith is the second ACL injury for UF this season. Junior Kit Loferski suffered the same injury in preseason training.
Â
To Note:
- Monday's result was the sixth consecutive match Florida was shutout. The Gators last scored in the 4-2 win versus Florida Atlantic on Aug. 19.
- Today's result extends Florida's scoreless streak to 607 minutes. The previous record of 315 scoreless minutes came in the 1995 season.
- This match signaled the end of non-conference play. Florida begins Southeastern Conference play Sunday with a home match versus Vanderbilt.
- This was UCF's first win since defeating UF in 2011 NCAA First Round play. Florida leads the series 14-4-1.

What Becky Burleigh Said:
On today's match:
"It was a difficult day. Credit UCF – they put a lot of pressure on us and played a lot of long balls we needed to track. To be honest, I feel this team [UF] is giving all they can right now. We are a little bit emotionally drained with all that has gone on [with injuries]. Physically, we are asking a lot of them but the good news is we can draw a line after this part of the season and start fresh on Sunday.
Â
"We appreciate the opportunity to get this game in. It wasn't an ideal situation last night, but we appreciate both schools being able to cooperate."– Florida Head Coach
Becky Burleigh
