Thursday, October 10, 2019 | Cross Country
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Gators are back and ready to take the course after a two-week intermission from competition, traveling to Seminole country for the Florida State Invitational, held at the Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee on Friday morning. The meet consists of 26 men's teams and 32 women's teams from several divisions, making for the largest field of collegiate runners in the FSU Invitational's history.
The men's 8k race will begin the day first at 7:40 a.m., followed by the women's 5k race after at 8:20 a.m.
The men's field of competitors consists of 12 Division I, six Division II, three NAIA, three NJCAA and two other programs (Club, University of the Bahamas). The field is highlighted by host No. 30 Florida State, ranked third in the South region, and Florida, who currently ranks 10th in the South region. Additionally, the Gators will see the likes of North Florida yet again in Friday's meet, who are ranked 11th in the South region.
Four Gators recorded personal records in their last time out on the course, as redshirt sophomore Matt Clark (25:22.8) and freshman Hugh Brittenham (26:47.6) are both coming off personal-best performances in the 8k at the Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational. Jesse Millson and freshmen Caden Monk and Carson Lyttle also tallied career finishes en route to a first-place team finish at the UCF Invitational, while Nick Deal, Blake Lowery, Jack Guyton and Trevor Foley continue to look to post strong performances for the Gators.
The women's field of competitors consists of 14 Division I, seven Division II, three NAIA, six NJCAA and two other programs (Club, University of Bahamas). The women's field is also highlighted by host No. 11 Florida State, ranked first in the South region, while the Gators and North Florida Ospreys, ranked sixth and 13th respectively in the South region, serve as noteworthy competitors in the women's 5k race.
The Florida women continue to make strides in their performance on the year, as the Gators notched seven personal records two weeks ago, not to mention two-time SEC women's runner of the week Jessica Pascoe's second straight individual title at the Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational. Though the women haven't competed in a 5k race since the Mountain Dew Invitational, the blue and orange received career efforts from junior Payton Capes-Davis (21:47.2) and freshmen Pamela O'Brien (22:13), Maria Fernandez (22:25.6) and Emily Culley (23:07.5) in the 8k race in Charlottesville. Meanwhile, Madison Morse, Jackie Addy, Sophie Piniella and Gianna Forte all posted PRs en route to top-15 finishes, leading to a second-place effort at the UCF Invitational. Additionally, the Florida women look to continue to receive contributions from Elisabeth Bergh, Imogen Barrett and Grace Blair in the lineup.
