Florida returns home and grabs the win against the Gamecocks

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The 13th-ranked Florida returned home on Wednesday night and swept the South Carolina Gamecocks in Exactech Arena.
The Gators took the first set 25-17 and then followed with a 25-19 victory in the second frame. Florida pulled out the 25-19 win in the final set to grab its 14th win of the season.
UF hit .368 on the night, led by 11 kills from Thayer Hall. Lauren Dooley added eight kills on 12 swings with just one error for a .538 clip, while Rachael Kramer also posted eight kills on the night.
Marlie Monserez dished out 37 assists on the night, averaging 12.33 assists per set.
Allie Gregory led the back-court defense for Florida, recording 13 digs in the match. Paige Hammons added six, while Hall and Riley Fischer both pitched in five apiece.
The Gators recorded six blocks as a team, led by four from Dooley. Kramer and Monserez both registered two apiece on the night.
Monserez and Holly Carlton led the team in service aces, recording two apiece.
The Gators are back on the road on Sunday as they face LSU on the SEC Network +. First serve is slated for 2 p.m. ET.

How it Happened
- Florida got out to the early 6-1 lead in the first set behind the serves of Thayer Hall and Allie Gregory. The Gators continued to hold at least a three-point advantage, going into the media timeout up 15-10. After back-to-back service aces from Marlie Monserez, UF held their largest lead of the set at 21-13. South Carolina cut the deficit to seven at 24-17, but a Holly Carlton kill closed it out to secure the victory.
- The Gators hit an astounding .548 in the frame, notching 19 kills. Lauren Dooley, Thayer Hall and Rachael Kramer all registered four kills, while Paige Hammons and Holly Carlton both pitched in three apiece.
- The Gators once again got out to the strong start in the second set, taking an 11-4 lead behind the serves of Holly Carlton and Paige Hammons. Florida got up as many as eight at the 19-11 mark before South Carolina began chipping away at the lead, getting within four at 21-17. Florida closed the set on a 4-2 run to go up two sets to none.
- Florida hit .478 in the second set, led by four kills from Hall. Carlton and Dooley both added three apiece in the frame.
- Throughout the third set, the teams traded points, with neither team holding more than a three-point lead before the media timeout. Going into that timeout, UF led 15-14, but went on a 5-2 run to take the 20-16 lead late. Florida continued to hold at least three-point lead the rest of the way to clinch the match.
- The Gators hit .121 in the final set, led by three kills apiece from Kramer and Hall.
