ORLANDO, Fla. – The Florida men's golf team climbed two spots in the final round of the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational to finish seventh with a collective 3-over 867 performance.
Host UCF claimed the event title, shooting 22 under to finish 16 strokes ahead of second-place LSU.
For the third time this fall season, John Axelsen was the Gators' highest individual finisher. Ricky Castillo recorded his fourth top-25 finish in as many outings, tying for 22nd after signing a 2 over through all 54 holes.
In the final 18 holes of the tournament, John DuBois recorded his first career under-par round, turning in a 1-under 71 to finish tied for 43rd individually.
Fred Biondi ended the day at 1 over, but due to a bogey-ridden second round, the freshman finished the event at 11 over.
Head Coach JC Deacon's Take
On today's round….
"We absolutely had to have a solid round today and the guys stepped up. I'm pleased to end the fall semester on a positive note. This team has a long way to go, but today should show these guys that they can hang with anyone if they focus and compete hard."
On Chris Nido's 3 under…
"I'm happy for Chris Nido as his hard work has finally paid off. He's had a frustrating semester, but he's continued to work and today's 69 was huge for him and the team. He's now got some time to clean some things up and get ready for a big spring."
On preparing for the spring season…
"The next three months are going to be pivotal for all of us. Our weather gives us the opportunity to play and practice whenever we like. I know our guys are going to take advantage of that luxury. We've got a lot to prove to ourselves and our competition."
