Berlin Advances to Flight B Finals at Bedford Cup

Women's tennis players Sydney Berlin and Tsveta Dimitrova complete second day of competition in Fort Myers
FORT MYERS, Fla. – University of Florida women's tennis sophomore Sydney Berlin won her third-straight match and secured a spot in Sunday's Flight B final as the Gators wrapped up their second day of competition at the Bedford Cup Saturday afternoon on the campus of Florida Gulf Coast University.
Berlin and senior Tsveta Dimitrova combined to post a 2-0 mark in singles and a 1-1 record in doubles for the day.
For the second day in a row, UF kicked off play with a doubles victory as Berlin and Dimitrova fought to a 7-5 win over Nandini Sharma and Domenika Turkovic of UCF.
After an early morning doubles test, the action shifted to singles play. Berlin improved her fall record to 3-0 when she prevailed over USF's Lucia Garrigues-Melendez, 6-3, 6-0. Dimitrova took on another USF Bull, Alexandria Mjos, and held on for a 6-4, 6-3 win.
Following a break in the action, UF returned to doubles play, this time in the semifinal round. After winning their first two career matches together, Berlin and Dimitrova were tripped up in their second bout of the day as they fell 6-4 to Radka Buzkova and May Kimhi of FAU.
Berlin, who holds a 3-0 record and is yet to drop a set, remains alive in the singles main draw and is set to compete in the Flight B final on Sunday.
The Florida duo wraps up their final day of competition at the Bedford Cup on Sunday.
