Gators Medalists at 2019 World Championships
Sani Brown came off a stellar sophomore season for the Gators, in which he finished third in 100 and 200 meters at NCAA Outdoor Championships, as well as third in the 60 meters at NCAA Indoor Championships. Sani Brown also won the Southeastern Conference Outdoor Championships 100 meters title, and ran the second-fastest 100 meters time in school history (9.97 seconds) – which also broke the Japanese record.
In the final day of World Championships competition, Gators Great Shara Proctor competed in the women's long jump final in what was her seventh career World Championships long jump appearance. Proctor became the fifth woman in history with that many long jump berths -- Jackie Edwards (nine from 1991-2007), Great Britain's and Italy's Fiona May (eight from 1991-2005), Germany's Heike Daute/Drechsler (seven from 1983-97 and 2001), and Brittney Reese (seven from 2007-19).
Yanis David, a 2019 finalist for The Bowerman, collegiate track and field's version of the Heisman Trophy, bowed out of the women's long jump preliminary. Gators Great Kemal Mesic did not make it through qualifying of the men's shot put either.
