Wednesday, October 9, 2019 | Women's Swimming & Diving
GAINESVILLE, Fla.— The Gators have been ranked as the No. 10 team in the nation in the first the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) TYR Top 25 Poll of the season.
The Gators are coming off three wins over Florida International, Miami and Florida Atlantic that saw the team win all but one event and outscore their opponents 617.5-270.5.
The 3-0 start marks the second consecutive season that the Gators reached this feat, the only two instances since 2010. Last season, the Gator won four straight dual meets before losing to Texas and Indiana.
The Gators are the third-highest SEC team in the opening rankings, with Missouri (No. 6) and Georgia (No. 8) ahead of them. Every team on the Gators' dual meet schedule is ranked in the opening poll.
In head coach Jeff Poppell's first year at the helm of the women's program in 2018-19, the Gators were ranked No. 19 in the first CSCAA poll, but ultimately moved up to No. 8 in the final poll after finishing the regular season with an overall record of 10-2 (4-1 SEC).
The Gators will be back in the water on Friday, Oct. 11 when the team travels to Minneapolis to face-off with No. 18 Minnesota at 7 p.m and then conclude the opening road portion of their schedule with their first conference dual meet at No. 6 Missouri on the 18th at 10:30 a.m.
The team will return home for two straight home meets when they host No. 8 Georgia on Nov. 1 and No. 24 Florida State on Nov. 8.
