
Gators Remain No. 1 in New CSCAA Poll

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida women's swimming and diving remains the No. 1 team in the country in the latest College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) TYR Top 25 Poll released on Wednesday.
The Gators (7-0) are placed at the top spot for the second straight poll after winning back-to-back home duals against then-No. 12 Georgia on Nov. 1 and then-No. 20 Florida State on Nov. 8.
The squad was first slotted at No. 1 in the rankings on Oct. 23, the first time since their 2009-10 championship-winning season. The 7-0 mark is the best start to a season since the 2002-03 squad that began 9-0.
In their home opener versus the Bulldogs, UF put together an all-around team effort, winning seven individual events and both relays.
Leah Braswell won the 1,000 free in a new personal-best time of 9:45.74, the second-fastest time in the country this season for the event. Additionally, Kelly Fertel notched three B-cuts while Bella Garofalo tallied 10.5 points as she tied for the top time in the 50 free and posted a runner-up bid in the 100 free.
In the Sunshine Showdown against Florida State, UF posted the top times in 13-of-14 swimming events, highlighted by placing the top-three finishers in the 200, 500 and 1,000 free.
Individually, four Gators would go on to win two events, highlighted by new career-best swims by Nikki Miller in the 1,000 free and Kelly Fertel in the 200 fly.
Talia Bates earned her first Freshman of the Week honor after winning the 50 and 100 free and being a member of the winning 200 free relay team and the third-place 400 medley relay against the Seminoles.
Elizabeth Perez has led the charge on the board for Florida's diving efforts, winning three events against Georgia and Florida State.
Florida swimmers will be back in action at the Georgia Tech Invitational on Nov. 22-24, with the Divers heading to Auburn for the annual Auburn Diving Invitational on Dec. 17-19.
The Gators will be back in the O'Connell Center Natatorium on Jan. 3 as they host a quad meet with Vanderbilt, North Florida and Liberty at 2:00 p.m.
