Harry Fodder: Klatsky to Redshirt
Tuesday, November 5, 2019 | Men's Basketball
Walk-on freshman guard Alex Klatsky has decided to take a red-shirt year.
Klatsky, a 6-foot-3, 189-pounder from Colts Neck, N.J., reported with his freshman class in July and has been practicing with the Gators since. An outstanding student and son of a prep coach with UF master's degree, Klatsky will continue all his basketball duties, but on the current track could have five seasons to be with the program and perhaps pursue a masters's of his own.
He'll now join junior transfers Anthony Duruji (from Louisana Tech) and Tyree Appleby (Cleveland State) as sit-out players on game days.
Klatsky, a teammate of freshman guard Scottie Lewis at Ranney School in New Jersey, was a four-year varsity letter-winner and helped his team to a 30-3 record as a senior. He's a very good shooter, but more to the point with regard to his current situation, Klatsky is an excellent teammate who has chosen a path that certainly will benefit both he and the Gators for several seasons.
