Gators Selected to Compete in First-Ever Pink Flamingo Cup

Women's tennis set to play in elite tournament in the Bahamas in January.

NASSAU, the Bahamas– The Florida women's tennis team has been selected as one of four programs to compete at the first-ever and one-of-a-kind Pink Flamingo Cup hosted by the Baha Mar resort next month in Nassau, The Bahamas.
The destination showcase, sanctioned by the ITA, will take place from Friday, Jan. 10 to Sunday, Jan. 12 at the Baha Mar Tennis Club on the grounds of the Baha Mar Resort.
This premier college tennis event features four of the top programs in the sport with the Gators, Texas, UCLA and the University of Miami all assembling on the island. All four teams finished in the ITA top 25 a season ago and the field includes 12 nationally ranked players total.
The four teams – UCLA, Florida, Texas and Miami - will begin the singles and doubles competition on Friday, Jan. 10 and each team will have the opportunity to compete against the other three teams through Sunday, Jan. 12 at the Baha Mar Tennis Club on the grounds of the Baha Mar Resort. Fans and Alumni of the four schools along with boosters, family members, friends and Resort guests will have the opportunity to see some of the best of the best compete at the highest level.

The Baha Mar resort hosted some of the top names in professional tennis at the inaugural Baha Mar Cup, a fundraising tournament that raised more than $100,000 for Hurricane Dorian relief in the Bahamas.

The Gators welcome back six returners from last season's squad which secured the program's 32nd-straight NCAA Championship appearance and finished No. 24 in the final ITA rankings. Despite finishing 13-12 overall, Florida completed the season with an impressive resume as it added 10 top 50 wins and maintained a top 50 ITA ranking for the duration of the campaign. Head coach Roland Thornqvist, in his 19th season, saw several players put together strong fall seasons including McCartney Kessler, who won a team-best 15 matches and claimed the ITA Southeast Regional singles title.
