Junior outside hitter earns honor for work in the Gainesville community
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Junior outside hitter Paige Hammons was named to the 2019 SEC Volleyball Community Service Team, as the league announced Wednesday.
The Louisville, Ky. native put in numerous hours with different organizations in the Gainesville community over the past year.
She spent a majority of her time with the Gainesville, Fla. elementary school JJ Finley. There she helped the students with their homework and during their classes.
Hammons also helped lead the pep rally at JJ Finley, where student-athletes led cheers and gave tips to the students on how to stay focused and do their best on upcoming state exams.
The junior also spent time volunteering at the Sidney Lanier Center – another local school in Gainesville.
Hammons and the Gators welcome Alabama State, UCF and Florida State to Gainesville for the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament. Florida faces off against the Hornets at 7 p.m. on Thursday night, while UCF and FSU are slated for a 4:30 p.m. matchup on Thursday. The winner of each match will play Friday night at 7 p.m. for a spot in the Regional Semifinal.
