GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Sophomore Oliver Crawford was named the SEC Athlete of the Week and nabbed SEC weekly awards for the fifth time, first of the season, as the league announced Wednesday.
Crawford's upset of No. 8 Alex Rybakov helped propel Florida's incredible comeback win over No. 15 TCU on Sunday. After helping the Gators win the doubles point, Florida quickly fell behind 3-1 in Fort Worth. Crawford, who dropped the first set of his singles match, battled back to take the match in three sets (4-6, 6-3, 6-4) and cut the Horned Frogs lead to one.
Crawford has started the season a perfect 5-0 in doubles and has only suffered one loss in singles (No. 17 Gabriel Decamps of UCF). The 2018 SEC Freshman of the Year has been playing No. 1 singles and No. 3 doubles for Florida.
Up next, Crawford and the Gators received the No. 4 seed of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Chicago. They will face USC in the opening round at 6:30 p.m. on Friday at the Midtown Athletic Center.
