Bulldog Scramble
MEN'S TENNIS PLAYERS DROP EIGHT OF NINE MATCHES AT BULLDOG SCRAMBLE
Friday, October 20, 2000 | Men's Tennis
Junior Olivier Levant was the lone University of Florida men's tennis player to win a match today as the Gators competed against players from Georgia in the Bulldog scramble at UGA's Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga. Throughout the weekend, UF, UGA, Duke and Illinois will face off in a dual-match format however the event will only be individually scored. The tournament is also using experimental ITA rules which call for a tiebreaker when a doubles pro-set reaches 7-all or a singles set reaches 5-all.
UGA swept the three doubles matches. Nathan Overholser played with Jeremy Wurtzman but the nation's 18th ranked team fell to fourth-ranked Matias Boeker and Travis Parrott of Georgia, 8-4. Olivier Levant and Troy Hahn fell, 8-2 and Ross Greenstein and West Nott also dropped their match for UF by an 8-2 score.
In singles play, Levant defeated Brandon Wagner of UGA, 6-5 (3), 4-6, 6-3. Overholser fell for the Gators, 6-5 (4), 3-6, 6-2, to Bo Hodge while UF freshmen Wurtzman and Trey Johnson also took their UGA opponents to three sets before falling. Greenstein and Nott each lost in straight sets.
UF will return to action at 2 pm tomorrow when it faces players from Duke.
