Midweek Streak Runs to Six Wins

WHAT HAPPENED: Florida swept the season series against Jacksonville with an 8-4 win on Tuesday night at McKethan Stadium.
Earlier this season, UF won 5-4 in Jacksonville and 13-8 in Gainesville. With the win on Tuesday, the Gators have won six midweek games in a row.
It looked like Tuesday's game would be a high-scoring affair after the teams combined for six runs in the first inning, but the game settled down through the middle portion.
Jacksonville opened the scoring with a sac fly to take a 1-0 lead, but Brady McConnell led off the bottom half of the first with a solo home run to tie the game.
Florida proceeded to score four more in the first, with RBI singles from Wil Dalton, Cory Acton and Jacob Young to take a 5-1 lead.
The pitching for both sides settled in after the first and matched zeros through the next four innings until the Gators added a run in the sixth on a RBI single from Jud Fabian to make it 6-1.
Florida's bullpen kept the JU bats quiet until Angel Camacho's solo home run in the eighth inning. The Dolphins rally continued and Cory Garrastazu's homer cut the Gators' lead to 6-4.
In the bottom of the eight, Florida responded with a couple insurance runs. After a pair of walks, Young blooped a two-out single to center to bring both runners home.
Nick Pogue worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his first career save.
IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Ben Specht – Right-handed reliever Ben Specht has a current streak of 7.2 scoreless innings pitched over his last five outings. He's lowered his earned run average from 6.75 to 4.29 in that span.
FROM THE COACH: Head Coach Kevin O'Sullivan – On tonight's game: "It's important for us to get out to an early lead, especially with all the young pitchers we use in midweeks. Brady set the tone in the first at bat and I think we hit around in the first inning so that was good. It's hard to play errorless ball in midweek games because there is so many pitchers and it's hard to get in the momentum and flow of the game. I thought we were good defensively, offensively we were good early. I thought Justin [Alintoff] came in and did a nice job after Nolan and Ben Specht continues to get better as the season goes on. We'll see what happens when we go down to Baton Rouge this weekend."
UP NEXT: Florida hits the road this weekend for three games at LSU. Thursday (7 p.m.) and Friday (8 p.m.) will air on SEC Network and Saturday's finale (3 p.m.) airs on ESPN2. All three games will air live on the Gators Sports Network.
