Women’s tennis sophomore honored for contributions in service.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – University of Florida women's tennis sophomore Victoria Emma has been named to the Southeastern Conference Community Service Team, the league announced Thursday afternoon.
All league-sponsored sports have had a Community Service Team since 2004, with at-large teams for men's and women's sports being chosen from 1999-2003. The SEC began this concept with a football Community Service Team in 1994.
The Naples, Fla. native volunteered with the Junior League of Gainesville as part of the Miracle on Main Street "toy sale" in the community. She helped organize and serve over 500 families and 1,000 children as herself and a group of student athletes helped spread the Christmas cheer. Emma took on the role of a personal shopper and guided families in need through a warehouse on a special shopping spree. She also helped wrap and deliver presents and entertain the children on what was a memorable and impactful day of service during the holidays.
In addition, Emma and her teammates have spent time at UF Health Shands Children's hospital visiting with patients.
On the court, Emma has played to an overall record of 14-10, playing primarily at No. 3 and No. 2. In doubles, Emma competes alongside McCartney Kessler and the duo is ranked No. 51 nationally and has compiled a 12-8 record at No. 1 for the Gators.
SEC Release
Emma and the Gators (10-9, 7-5) have just three regular season matches remaining and all of them are crucial with the potential of an NCAA bid hanging in the balance.
