Last month, Trinity Thomas picked up the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Year award. Today, she claims the NACGC Southeast Region Gymnast of Year honor.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – University of Florida freshman Trinity Thomas is the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC) Southeast Region Gymnast of the Year, the NACGC announced Wednesday.
Thomas is one of two freshmen claiming a region gymnast of the year honor. She is the fifth Gator to claim the honor and is the second to claim the award as a freshman.
Thomas in 2019:
· All-America first -team for all-around, uneven bars and floor exercise and second-team for balance beam in the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches (NACGC) regular-season awards – nation's only freshman with four honors
· Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Year
· SEC vault champion after equaling collegiate-best of 9.95. Also shared second on floor exercise (9.95) and third in all-around (39.575)
· Only freshman to earn All-SEC honors in SEC Championships' Session II
· One of four (and only freshman) in the nation ranked among nation's top 20 for every event – No. 5 all-around (39.65 RQS), No. T2 floor (9.965), No. 4 uneven bars (9.95), No. 14 balance beam (9.910), No. 17 vault (9.9).
· First in league history to earn a SEC weekly honor after each competition (three SEC Gymnast; six SEC Freshman of Week)
· Leads Florida with 26 event titles (nine floor; six all-around, bars; three vault, two beam)
· Eight nearly perfect 9.975s (three bars; five floor) leads Gator freshman all-time
· Every collegiate-best is a 9.925 or better. Top all-around (39.75) equals high by a Gator freshman (Bridget Sloan-2013)
Thomas competes on uneven bars and floor exercise in NCAA Championships Session II on April 19. That competition airs on ESPNU beginning at 7 p.m. ET.
