Gators Head West for Regional Play in Washington
Sunday, May 12, 2019 | Men's Golf
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Florida men's golf team continues their post-season journey this week in Pullman, Washington, for NCAA Regionals.
The Gators are coming off a shorter-than-expected run at the SEC Championships two weeks ago. After finishing in a tie for 11th during the stroke play portion, Florida did not advance to match play. Sophomore John Axelsen went into the final day of stroke play in contention for the individual title. Auburn won stroke play and took home the individual title while advancing to the championship match with Arkansas. Arkansas took home the team title for the first time since 1995.
Florida returns postseason experience in sophomores Axelsen and Chris Nido and senior Gordon Neale. Florida won their 2018 regional in record-breaking fashion with a 42-under-par final score of 822. Nido finished in second place with Axelsen close behind at T6. The Gators hope to come out with similar successes at this year's regional competition.
Course Information: The event will be played at the par 70, 7,246 yard Palouse Ridge Golf Club, hosted by Washington State University. The course hosted NCAA golf with Pac-12 women's championship in 2012, the NCAA men's west regional in 2013, and the Pac-12 men's championship in 2015.
Format: There will be three rounds of stroke play over three days of competition. The top five teams and top individual from each regional will advance to the NCAA Championships May 24-29 at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
