Jalen Hudson as a Hokie
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Virginia Tech basketball fans are probably growing a little weary of Florida raiding its cupboard.Â
When All-Atlantic Coast Conference center and graduate transferÂ
Kerry Blackshear announced last week he would play his 2019-20 season for the Gators, he became the third marquee Hokie to leave Blacksburg, Va., for Gainesville.
And the Hokies, as the below chart of all-time UF transfers will attest, have been very good to the Gators.
With one year to play, Blackshear, who played his prep basketball at Orlando Evans High, won't assault this list the way
Dorian Finney-Smith did over three seasons or
Jalen Hudson, once a teammate of Blackshear's at Tech, did in his two seasons. But any numbers that remotely resemble what the 6-foot-11, 235-pounder put up last season — 14.9 points, 7.5 rebounds and nearly 30 minutes per game for a NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 team — will rocket him up the chart the way the two grad transfers before him,
Canyon Barry and
Egor Koulechov, did in their lone seasons after parachuting in via College of Charleston in 2016 and Rice in 2017, respectively.
Worth noting: Though he won't show up here after next season, the Gators have a second future entry on this list in former Louisiana Tech forward
Anthony Duruji, who checked in with his five freshmen teammates last week. Duruji, a 6-7, 211-pound junior from Germantown, Md., averaged 12.2 points and 6.2 rebounds as a sophomore with the Bulldogs last season, but must sit out the '19-20 campaign per NCAA underclassmen transfer rules. He'll be a fourth-year junior with two seasons of eligibility starting in '20-21.Â
