GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Florida cross country program has announced its 2019 fall schedule, featuring trips to Texas A&M and Kentucky for SEC Championships this season.
The Gators will open their schedule with the annual University of North Florida Invite in Jacksonville, Fla. on Fri., August 30. The Gators will look to build upon last year's success, as the women took first place, sweeping the top-four finishes, including senior Jessica Pascoe and redshirt senior Elisabeth Bergh, in the 3,000-meter, while the men finished second with top-15 finishes in the 5k from returners Nick Deal, Colin Schaefer, Jack Guyton and Jesse Millson.
Next, Florida will host their lone home meet of the season, welcoming teams to Gainesville for the Mountain Dew Invitational on Sat., September 14. The meet will run consistent with last season's, featuring only a pair of collegiate races with no high school sections of the invitational. The women are coming off their fifth consecutive and 13th overall Mountain Dew Invitational team title, as last year saw top-10 finishes for Pascoe (1st) and Bergh (3rd) and eight personal best times. The Gators men's cross country team earned a third place finish last season, seeing a top-10 finish from Schaefer.
After a two-week recovery from competition, Florida will split its squad in sending a group to Charlottesville, Va. for the Virginia Invitational and another group to Orlando for the UCF Knights Invitational on Fri., September 27. The team will then return back to action after another two weeks, competing in the Florida State Invitational in Tallahassee on Fri., October 11.
Following, the Gators will travel to College Station for the inaugural Arturo Barrios Invitational at Texas A&M on Sat., October 19, where the Florida women claimed the title last season, compiling numerous personal best times in the 6k and five top-20 finishes (including three top-10).
The SEC Championships will then take place on Fri., November 1 in Lexington, Ky., opening the postseason for the Gators. The Florida women finished second, including an SEC Individual title for Jessica Pascoe, and the men finished eighth at the meet last year.
The Gators will then head to Tallahassee for the NCAA South Regionals on Fri., November 15, as the Florida women will look to follow up last year's second place finish to earn a second consecutive NCAA Championships appearance, slated for November 23.
