GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Former Gator and four-time AVCA All-American
Rhamat Alhassan was chosen to compete with Team USA at the NORCECA Champions Cup, as USA Volleyball announced Saturday.
The competition is set for Aug. 22-24 at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
The NORCECA Champions Cup is a four-team round-robin tournament for the top women's and men's volleyball teams in NORCECA, which encompasses North American, Central America and the Caribbean.
Alhassan had one of the most storied careers in Florida volleyball history. She was the 2017-18 Honda Sport Award Winner for volleyball – the first Gator to win the award.
She also is just the second Gator in history to earn a spot on one of the three AVCA All-America teams four times during her tenure.
Along with that honor, she was the 2017 SEC Player of the Year and is just the second player in Division I history to tally at least 1,250 kills, 650 blocks and a .420 clip over the course of a career.
During her senior season in 2017, she led the nation in blocks per set with 1.70, becoming the first SEC player in history to lead the nation in that category.
Earlier in August, Alhassan competed with Team USA at the Pan American Games in Lima, Peru.
