JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Florida men's and women's cross country teams open the 2019 season on Friday morning (Aug. 30), traveling to Jacksonville for the UNF Invitational held at the UNF Hayt Golf Learning Center. The Gators will look to follow up and build off last season's performances at the UNF Invite, as the UF women collected a season-opening victory while the men finished in second place behind host, North Florida.
The Gators were picked third on the women's side and tied for fourth on the men's side of last week's SEC Cross Country Coaches' Preseason Poll, while also ranking fourth and 10th respectively in the South Region by the USTFCCCA. The Ospreys come into the meet ranking eighth in the South Region on the women's side, while the men sit at 15th in the USTFCCCA preseason regional rankings.
On the men's side, redshirt sophomore Nick Deal returns after clocking the fastest time for the Gators with a fifth place finish at last year's meet. Florida also returns a pair of key contributors in Jack Guyton, Jesse Millson and Trevor Foley, while freshmen Hugh Brittenham, Carson Lyttle, and Cavan Wilson will make their debut in Gators uniforms in tomorrow's season opener.
The Gators will look to repeat last year's first place finish, as returners Imogen Barrett, Grace Blair, Sophie Ebihara and Madison Morse highlight the women competing in the season opener. Newcomers Payton Capes, Jackie Addy, Emily Culley, Gianna Forte, and redshirt freshman Maria Fernandez will additionally make their debut for the Gators in tomorrow's dual meet.
