GAINESVILLE, Fla. – It wasn't the home opener the Gators were looking for.
Â
Florida lost 2-0 to Central Florida Sunday evening at the Donald R. Dizney Stadium. It was the Gators fourth consecutive loss and the Knight's first win of 2019.
Â
Sunday's scoring:
The Knights scored early and late Sunday.
Â
UCF's Ally Gudorf gave the Knights the lead in the third minute, taking advantage of some miscommunication on the Gator backline to win the ball and then hit a sharply angled ball to the far post.
Â
The final goal came in the 86
th minute with Kristen Scott scoring from eight yards off the assist from Zandy Soree.
Â
Worth Noting
- This is Florida's second consecutive loss to UCF. UF lost 3-0 in Orlando when the two teams met in 2018.

What the Gators Said:
Tonight's performance:
"I thought it was a slow start. I mean, you can't give up a goal in the first few minutes and that type of mental error - that's tough.
Â
"In the end, it wasn't enough. We didn't have enough quality chances that we were able to stick in the back of the net. The second goal, I feel that's a mental error, too to be fair. But, you're chasing a game and you're going to be aggressive and what's the difference if you lose 1-0 or 2-0 at that point. You are trying to score.
" – Florida Head Coach
Becky Burleigh
Â
What does the team need to do better going forward?
"I think our entry balls from our center backs to our midfielders. We need to be able to turn and look to distribute better. A lot of times, their defense covers us really tight and we play it straight back and it kind of is one note so switching it up and being able to go forward." – senior midfielder
Tess Sapone
