Five Things to Know About the 2020 Gators
- Streaking in the Top-15. Florida debuted at No. 4 in the AVCA Division I Coaches' abridged Poll (Top-15) on Sept. 30, marking the 29th consecutive season the Gators are a preseason Top-15 team. The streak runs all the way back to 1992, and only Nebraska and Stanford boast longer streaks.
- Gators in the SEC. After winning their 24th SEC Championship in 2019, the 2020 Gators were picked to finish second in the league. Thayer Hall was named to the All-SEC Preseason team for the first time in her career.
- Seasoned Squad. This Gator squad lost four seniors to graduation, but returns 11 players this fall for a plethora of experience. Between the returners, there are two AVCA All-Americans and three AVCA All-Region selections. This will be the first chance for Florida fans to see Georgia transfer T'ara Ceasar in action, as she had to sit out the 2019 season due to SEC transfer rules. Florida returns .821 percent of its kills, .722 percent of its service aces, .800 percentage of its solo blocks, .803 percent of its block assists, .917 of its assists and .675 percent of its digs.
- Freshmen Phenoms. Florida welcomes four newcomers to the 2020 roster: Birdie Hendrickson, Elli McKissock, Nnedi Okammor and Sofia Victoria. The four freshmen bring in numerous accolades, including Gatorade Player of the Year honors, national team experience and High School All-American honors.
- Among the Elite. Mary Wise is one of two coaches to have been named AVCA Coach of the Year at least three times in their career (Russ Rose, Penn State, five times). Florida sits third all-time in program wins since 1984 with 1,033. That trails only Penn State and Nebraska for the most in the nation.
