Johnson's Progress Continues, More Games Postponed

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The news on the Keyontae Johnson front continued on its positive track Thursday, but Florida's upcoming three basketball games will not be played, Athletics Director Scott Stricklin announced Thursday.
"Keyontae Johnson continues to show truly encouraging signs of progress as he undergoes tests and further evaluation at UF Health," Stricklin said. "He and his family have again expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of love, prayers and well-wishes."
Johnson, the 6-foot-5, 231-pound forward and Southeastern Conference preseason player of the year, has been at UF Health since Monday, when he was airlifted from Tallahassee Memorial Hospital two days after collapsing during the opening minutes of the Gators' game Saturday against Florida State. For three days, Johnson was listed in critical but stable condition, then Tuesday was upgraded to stable after he was able to follow commands and communicate with doctors and family members.
Meanwhile, UF's next three games — Saturday against Florida Atlantic, Sunday against Florida A&M, and Tuesday against James Madison — have been postponed, which will allow players a chance to go home for the holidays.
For now, the Gators' next scheduled game would be the Dec. 30 SEC opener at Vanderbilt.
"This has been an emotionally taxing time for Keyontae's family, friends and teammates," Stricklin said. "Our hope is that everyone impacted will take an opportunity to process those emotions and regroup ahead of the start of the new year."
