GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida basketball star Keyontae Johnson will be home for the holidays.
Johnson, the junior forward and 2020 Southeastern Conference preseason player of the year, was discharged Tuesday morning from UF Health, where he'd been since Dec. 14 after collapsing during the Gators' game at Florida State two days earlier. Johnson was treated for two days at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital before being airlifted to Gainesville.
The Johnson family said in a statement Tuesday that it "continued to be amazed at the pace of his recovery" as it looked forward to spending the Christmas holiday together.
The family also asked for patience with regard to drawing "definitive conclusions" to the cause of Johnson's illness.
"We are committed to sharing not only updates on Keyontae but also any information we think could help others," the statement said. "When we have that, we will share it. Until then, we continue to be grateful for the care and support Keyontae is receiving."
Nika Johnson, the player's mother, celebrated her 42nd birthday Tuesday the best way possible, and tweeted as much.
