GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The Gators soccer team continued its 2019 spring play with a loss to professional Finnish club Tikkurilian Palloseura (TiPS) at the University of Florida Practice Field.
Today's match was divided into three 30-minute periods.
Midway through the first period, sophomore Cassidy Lindley delivered a cross from a corner for redshirt junior Kit Loferski to strike the ball into the goal as defenders scrambled to clear it.
Minutes later, freshman Nicole Vernis threaded a ball past TiPS' back-line and allowed Lindley to have enough time to power a shot over the keeper's shoulder.
The away side got a goal back halfway through the second period to cut the deficit to just one goal. But the Gators retaliated with three minutes left as redshirt freshman Samantha Tobar squared the ball to freshman Alivia Gonzalez who scored the open goal.
Florida allowed three goals in the final three goals in 22 minutes after a change in players on the pitch and formation.
Hear From the Coaches:
"I wish we had more time here. We love the university environment. We got used to it at UCF and also FSU but I wish we had more time here." – TiPS head coach Pauliina Miettinen
"We kind of go way back and it was great to be able to host her (Pauline) team." - head coach Becky Burleigh
"It's the spring and we're going to play everybody. The good part is obviously that everybody is getting playing time. It's a learning experience and hopefully we can change that by the time our next spring game rolls around." – head coach Becky Burleigh
