GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Alfonso Mestre's 500 free victory highlighted the No. 9 Gators during the first day of the Auburn Invitational at the James E. Martin Aquatics Center.
Mestre would go on to win the Florida-filled event with a B-cut time of 4:21.96. He would shave almost five full seconds from his time set in the morning prelims.
Brennan Gravley finished behind his freshman classmate, posting a personal-best swim of 4:24.33 to claim a runner-up bid. To round out the top-three,
Drew Clark hit the wall in a season-best swim of 4:24.39, also faster than his effort from the A.M.
The final two Gators in the event would also set new best efforts as Gators as
Tyler Watson (4:26.82) finished in fifth, while
Advait Page (4:26.82) tallied an eighth-place finish.
Ethan McCloud was the lone Florida representative in the 200 IM, as the freshman would finish in third-place with a new personal-best swim of 1:49.80. He previously set a new lifetime-best in the preliminary round, finishing with a time of 1:51.54.
The third and final individual event was led by
Viktor Toth, who was just .12 seconds off the winning time. Toth's mark of 20.36 was a new season-best.
Lucas Kravchenko would improve on his new personal-best swim set from the morning with his sixth-place effort of 20.84.
What's Next
The group will be right back in the water tomorrow morning with the second day at the Martin Aquatics Center. Prelims will again begin at 11:00 a.m. ET with the 400 IM and the finals will kick-off later in the evening at 6:30 p.m.
In total, seven events will occur on Saturday.
The third and final day of events will begin on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. (prelims). The last round of final swims will be pushed up to 3:00 p.m.
