Gators Chase School History in Midweek Matchups
Monday, March 2, 2020 | Baseball
GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The Gators are D1Baseball.com's No. 1 team for a second consecutive week, and they are one win away from becoming the first team in school history to open a season 12-0. Florida chases that history Tuesday at 7 p.m., when it faces Florida Atlantic at FITTEAM Ballpark of the Palm Beaches in West Palm Beach, Fla.
The Gators then return home for a Wednesday game against Florida A&M, which is scheduled for 6 p.m.
This past weekend, Florida swept Troy to improve to 11-0 and match the 1989 and 2002 Gators for the best start in program history. Sophomore Jacob Young, who started all three games in right field, extended his hitting streak (12 games), as well as his run of multi-hit games (six in a row).
Florida continues to display the makings of one of the nation's top offenses, with its 116 hits entering the week tied for 31st nationally, and its 13 home runs entering the week tied for 19th nationally. Sophomore outfielder Jud Fabian's five home runs are tied for 14th nationally.
UF's pitching staff has impressed through the first three weekends as well, posting a 2.62 earned run average that ranks tied for 34th nationally. The bullpen has been particularly strong, touting a 6-0 record, with four saves, and a 1.93 ERA across 51.1 innings pitched.
Tuesday's game is available to stream via the Conference USA website, and can be heard via 98.1 FM / 850 AM. Wednesday's game will stream on SEC Network+, via the ESPN app.
