Inaugural Athletes Unlimited Season Features Seven Former Gators

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Starting August 29, seven former Gators will suit up to play the inaugural season of a newly founded professional league by Athletes Unlimited. The season is set to be played at Parkway Bank Sports Complex in Chicago with all 30 games scheduled to be aired on CBS Sports Network, ESPN and ESPN3.
Florida standouts Kelly Barnhill, Nicole DeWitt, Michelle Moultrie, Aubree Munro, Aleshia Ocasio, Jordan Roberts and Kelsey Stewart will compete in the Athletes Unlimited league for the 2020 season. With seven former Gators in the league, it gives Florida the largest amount of representation from an NCAA program.
"Athletes Unlimited is an innovative sports league that I believe will elevate the game of softball." Ocasio said. "The game is still the same and the competition is through the roof. But, the dynamics of the scoring system is different. I'm excited for our inaugural season, where we'll be playing a total of 30 games between 56 athletes on ESPN and CBS Sports."
The new league, which was announced back in March, offers a unique model that eliminates team owners, general managers and a traditional fixed-team format.
Instead, the league is built around player ownership and a unique scoring system.
Over the five-week season, that includes 30 games, 56 players will draft into four teams that will change from week-to-week. There is no team champion or postseason type of play as an individual champion will be determined by the athlete that accumulates the most points.
At the conclusion of play each week, the top four individual point scorers will earn spots as team captains and will draft their team for the following week from the remaining pool of players.
Individually, players can earn points a variety of ways such as being named the MVP of a game, garnering hits or stealing bases. They can also lose points by being thrown out trying to steal a base or giving up earned runs if you are a pitcher.
As a team, players earn points by outscoring their opponents in each inning and by winning the game.

Despite fans not being able to physically attend games this season, the league offers a robust virtual fan experience that includes a downloadable Watch Party Kit, which features family activities and a scorecard, virtual autograph sessions and Unlimited Club memberships.
The league is also providing athletes with professional development tools with the launch of Athletes+. Through a partnership with WOLFPACK Endeavor, an organization co-founded by World Champion soccer star and former Gator Abby Wambach, Athletes+ will provide next generation professional education and a career exploration enrichment program for players.
In addition, athletes will be heavily involved in civic leadership initiatives through a variety of partnerships with Girl Scouts of the USA, Rally the Vote and the Athletes Causes program. The Athletes Causes program, powered by Give Lively, will provide funding to the charity of the players' choosing equal to 50% of their season bonus.
