Tuesday, January 19, 2021 | Women's Basketball
After scoring 41 points at No. 17 Arkansas and helping lead Florida to its first SEC win vs. Auburn, Lavender Briggs awarded player of the week honors.
Briggs continued to showcase her impressive scoring ability as she poured in a career-high 41 points at Arkansas last Thursday, the most scored by an SEC player this season. Registering the fourth-most points in a single game in program history and the most ever by any UF sophomore, Briggs connected for a career-best 17 field goals including a career-high six 3-pointers.
Becoming the just the fourth player in NCAA Division I this season to eclipse 40-point plateau, the 6-foot-1 guard recorded 16 points in the fourth quarter in Fayetteville as she went head-to-head in an entertaining scoring display between herself and All-SEC talent Chelsea Dungee.
Briggs added 18 more points in UF's win over Auburn which was its first SEC victory. The Preseason All-SEC Second Team pick, added three assists and three rebounds in Florida's momentous win this past Sunday.
The Utah native averaged 29.5 points for the week and through six SEC games she is putting up 23.2 points per contest. She has scored 15 or more points in 11-straight games overall and ranks top five in the conference in scoring.
Briggs' recognition marks UF's first SEC Player of the Week honor since Jan. 23, 2018 when Haley Lorenzen collected the accolade.
Florida returns to game action this Sunday, Jan. 24 when it travels to Ole Miss.
