GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The college football season officially turned wacky last weekend, highlighted by then-No. 1 Alabama's loss at Texas A&M.
Alabama's stumble to an Aggies team that had lost back-to-back games means every team in the SEC West has lost a conference game. And we're only at midseason. Meanwhile, it also means the league's only two undefeated teams call the SEC East home: No. 1 Georgia and No. 11 Kentucky.
Can you say perfect timing? The Bulldogs (6-0, 4-0) host the Wildcats (6-0, 4-0) on Saturday afternoon at 3:30 on CBS.
The 20th-ranked Gators (4-2, 2-2) visit LSU (3-3, 1-2) on Saturday morning (11 a.m. Baton Rouge time) and need a win to keep their slim hopes of repeating as SEC East champions alive. They will need help for that to become reality later in the season but as last week showed, the 2021 season is full of surprises.
Before we delve deeper into the Florida-LSU matchup this week, let's take a look at some current stories from around the internet that might be of interest to Gators fans:
-- How the Gators found the fire and other key takeaways from shutout over Vanderbilt from G. Allan Taylor of The Athletic.
-- Gators head coach Dan Mullen has dismissed reserve cornerback Elijah Blades from the team, whose time as No. 19 was short-lived and probably most memorable on the field for a late hit at Kentucky. For more on Blades' unusual career, Andy Hutchins of AlligatorArmy.com ponders his path.
-- Following LSU and a bye week, Florida's offense will have to deal with a Georgia defense doing special things, laid out here from Alex Kirshner of FiveThirtyEigh.com.
-- Mistake-prone Gators have a plan to deal with raucous Tiger Stadium writes Edgar Thompson of the Orlando Sentinel.
-- Rashad Torrence II and Trey Dean III are forming a strong safety duo for the Gators writes Ethan Hughes of GatorCountry.com.
-- What Gators QB Emory Jones learned from last two losses to LSU from Matt Baker of the Tampa Bay Times.
