15 Gators Collect Personal Bests at FSU Pre-Nationals XC Meet

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida Gators cross country teams competed in the Pre-Nationals meet at Florida State on Friday, Oct. 15 as the teams posted 15 personal bests on the day.

Ethan Geiger was the top Florida finisher in the Men's Garnet race, making it his second time this season to do so as he finished first for the Gators at the Mountain Dew Invitational on Sept. 11. Geiger placed 123^rd out of 304 athletes in the race with a new 8k personal best by over 20 seconds – 24:22.9.

In addition to Geiger, five other Gators posted personal record times in the Garnet section: Joe Wester (24:45.3), Josh Stern (24:52.1), Javi Vento (24:54.2), Matt Mule' (24:56.1) and Cavan Wilson (25:17.3).

In the Women's Garnet section, Parker Valby continues to impress. In every meet she has competed in so far, Valby has crossed the finish line first for Florida. The Gator's first 6k of the season saw an improvement to her previous PR by more than a minute and a half as she placed 28^th out of 246 runners with a new personal best time of 20:19.9. Her mark just missed the top 10 list in school history, but now ranks eighth in the SEC right now.

Valby wasn't the only one who posted a PR at the meet as Emily Culley (21:34.0) and Liina Winborn (22:00.7) both collected new 6k bests. Four total Gators also placed in the top 100. Valby led the way with a 28^th-place outing, Imogen Barrett followed with a 68^th-place finish in her first race of the season, Stephanie Ormsby was next at 83^rd and Vasileia Spyrou placed 94^th to round out the top 100 and help the team to a 16^th-place finish out of 33 teams.

Michael Fiore was the top Gator in the Men's Open 8k section after placing 42^nd out of 267 runners with a PR of 25:07.9. Cade Monk was next to cross the finish line with a time of 25:56.3 to finish 91^st. Ryan Miller (26:12.0), Orlando Cicilioni (26:16.8) and Aiden Villasuso (26:47.0) also ran personal bests in the meet as the team placed 12^th out of 31 teams with 357 points.

Florida had four student-athletes competing in the Women's Open 6k section as Jordan Shapiro led the group with a 52^nd-place finish out of 294 runners with a PR of 22:11.3, followed by Gianna Forte in 85^th with a time of 22:37.8. Freshman Keleigh Scallon also posted a personal best time of 22:59.3.
