
Number 4 Gators Set for 2021 SEC Championships in Athens

Florida looks to earn their first women's SEC title since 2009

ATHENS, Ga. – The No. 4 University of Florida swimming and diving team will enter postseason competition this week at the 2021 Southeastern Conference Championships from Feb. 17-20 at the Gabrielsen Natatorium in Athens, Ga.
The Gators head into this year's competition with a young team consisting of ten freshman and six sophomores.
The four-day event will begin on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. ET with time trials, followed by the 200-medley relay and the 800 free relay at 5:00 p.m.
For the remainder of the week, prelims will start at 10:00 a.m. ET, with finals competition beginning at 6:00 p.m. ET.
Both sessions throughout all four days of competition can be viewed on SEC Network +.

Regular Season Review
During the 2020-21 regular season, Florida complied an overall record of 4-1, and a conference mark of 1-1.
The team started off with a loss to Georgia, then went on a 3-0 run beating Miami, Auburn, North Florida, and Auburn for the second time.
In their first win against Miami the lady Gators posted the top times in all 14 events and beating Miami with a score of 190-94.
In the third meet of the season at the Auburn Fall Invitational, the Gators pulled out the win with big performances on the last day of the meet winning with a score of 508-421.
At the Auburn Invite, Cecilia Porter broke the school record in the 100-breast with a time of 59.22 posting a B-cut in that event.
In the third and final prelim session of the Auburn Fall Invitational was highlighted by seven B-cuts and four top event times by the Gators.
The Gators took on FIU and Miami in diving on Jan. 17, during that meet Elizabeth Perez posted a 299.0 in the women's 1-meter, which was good for second in the competition, and earned her an A-cut, which is an automatic qualification into NCAA Diving Zones.
Lauren Snider won the women's platform with a 266.6, which earned her a B-cut for NCAA Diving Zones. Leonardo Garcia won the men's three-meter with a season-best 416.1.
During the Gators last home of the season on senior night, the Florida women's team defeated UNF 176-74.
Florida won all 14 events against UNF, but more importantly, the Gators produced 22 B-cut times for the NCAA Championships and multiple new additions to the all-time top-10 lists at UF.
In Florida's last regular season meet, they face Auburn at Auburn. The women's team defeated number 23 Auburn 215-84.
UF won 15 of the 16 events over the Tigers and produced 22 B-cut performances, while also adding on an A-cut performance from senior diver, Ashley McCool.
Gators in the Polls
The final 2021 College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) poll slotted the Gators at No. 4 after a second-place finish at the 2020 SEC Championships last year.
Heading into the 2020-21 season, the CSCAA placed Florida at No. 10 in its inaugural poll of the season.
That ranking will fluctuate, staying at No. 10, then moving up to No. 7, then dropping to No. 8, and finally ending up at No. 4 before heading into the SEC Championships.
Championship History
The 2021 Southeastern Conference Championships marks the 40th conference competition within women's swimming, dating back to 1981. The Gators would win the inaugural title that season before claiming the next three championships.
Florida leads the SEC with 17 championship titles, while Georgia is right behind them with 12 SEC titles.
Florida has won swimmer of the year six times, with the last year being back in 2014 when Elizabeth Beisel won the award.
