Trinity Thomas is College Gym News' Gymnast of the Year, the site announced today.

This is the first end-of-season awards for the site. Members of the CGN staff nominated individuals in six categories based on specified criteria. Then, the field was narrowed down and editors voted based on regular season performance only.

Gymnast of the Year
Winner: Trinity Thomas (Florida)
Criteria: Nominees shouldn't just top the standings but have been a significant contributor throughout the season for their team. Nominees rarely had missteps and consistently produced top scores that made an impact. They stand out from their peers.

Thomas in 2021:
· Five 2021 Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) All-America awards. All-America first-team for all-around, vault, uneven bars and floor exercise and second-team for balance beam –
nation's only gymnast in 2021 to claim the maximum five honors
· Three All-America honors in NCAA Championships competition – all-around, balance beam, floor exercise (second team)
· Set nation's 2021 high and Florida record all-around best (39.90) to win title at then No. 2 LSU. Nation's fifth-highest total all-time. Shares second all-time among SEC gymnasts (second to UGA's Karin Lichey's 40.0 in 1996)
· One of five in nation with 10.0 in multiple events (two each on bars and floor)
· First 10.0 took floor win at No. 2 LSU
· Second Gator ever with a pair of 10.0 in single meet (uneven bars and floor exercise) versus Auburn on Feb. 26
· Owns four of 2021's top 12 all-around totals (No. 1: 39.90; No.T-12: 39.75 3x). No other gymnast with more than three scores among 2021 top 12 all-around totals
· Final Road to Nationals event rankings (through regular season): No. 1 all-around (39.788 NQS), No. 1 uneven bars (9.975), No. 2 floor exercise (9.975), No. T7 vault (9.944), No. T10 balance beam (9.944),
· Led Gators with 20 event wins in 2021 – five bars, four all-around, vault, floor; three beam.
· Four SEC Gymnast of the Week led all league gymnasts in 2021 and gives her 15 for career – the most in the 22-year history of the honor.
