Meet the Gators: Brandon Neely
Wednesday, January 19, 2022 | Baseball
As the countdown to the 2022 season hits the one-month threshold, Florida's Meet the Gators series concludes this week with freshman right-handed pitcher Brandon Neely in the spotlight. Hailing from Seville, Fla., the Spruce Creek High School product will rep No. 22 for the Orange & Blue.
Recently ranked as the No. 1 recruiting class in the country by Perfect Game, Florida's 2021 incoming class features 16 freshmen and one four-year college transfer. Even in a loaded crop of newcomers, Neely stands out having been the No. 137 recruit nationally on top of being the No. 17 overall player and No. 5 right-handed pitcher in the state.
Prior to his arrival in Gainesville, Neely ranked as MLB Pipeline's No. 205 prospect for the 2021 MLB Draft.
Tabbed as a two-time Perfect Game Preseason All-Region First Team member from 2020-21, Neely earned a pair of letters in baseball under head coach Matt Cleveland at Spruce Creek. During two seasons at Spruce Creek, Neely compiled a 2-0 record with a 0.62 ERA and 87 strikeouts across 67.2 innings pitched. The right-hander allowed just 37 hits, limiting opposing hitters to a paltry .155 batting average.
Neely also held his own in the batter's box, slashing .270/.343/.426 as a senior with two home runs, one triple, six doubles, 18 RBI, nine runs and six stolen bases.
Neely also competed for Scorpions Baseball, earning recognition on 15 different all-tournament teams from 2016-20. After earning an invitation to Perfect Game's 2020 National Showcase, Neely was tabbed to the Showcase Top Prospect Team.
As the son of Jim and Pamela Neely, Brandon has one sister, Cameron. He intends to major in sport management at the University of Florida.

One of the best performances of the year. Showed unbelievable mound presence and got better as the game went on. Used a hard heavy FB and a sweeping slider.
