No. 6 Florida Men’s Swimming on Top of Leaderboard at Georgia Invite After Day 2

ATHENS, Ga. – Florida continued to put up fast numbers on day two of the Georgia Invite.
 
The Gators posted six wins, 43 B-cut qualifying teams, and one A-cut qualifying time.
 
No. 6 Florida men sit atop the leaderboard with 787.5 points, over 120 points ahead of second place Auburn.
 
No. 9 Florida women sit in second at 649, but are just eight and a half points behind Auburn's 657.5 lead.
 
Finals:
Women's 200 Medley Relay
Florida's A team of Talia Bates, Tylor Mathieu, Olivia Peoples, and Ekaterina Nikonova finished in fourth at 1:37.86. Florida's B team came in 12th, while the C team came in 15th.
 
Men's 200 Medley Relay
Moving into the fifth-fastest time in program history, the team Adam Chaney, Julian Smith, Eric Friese, and Joshua Liendo racked up a A-cut of 1:22.82. In the final leg, Liendo put up an 18.17 50 free split, one of the fastest in the nation this season.
 
Women's 400 IM
Gators went one-two with a couple of B-cut times, as Mabel Zavaros led the way with a 4:07.41 to finish first, over a second ahead of the rest of the field. Kathleen Golding finished second with a 4:09.18, while Anna Auld and Zoe Dixon put up B-cut times of their own.
 
Men's 400 IM
Kevin Vargas posted a second-place finish at 3:40.98 and Mason Laur's 3:43.42 put him in third. Joaquin Gonzalez Pinero finished fifth at 3:45.70. Florida posted four of the top-seven times, all B-cut times.
 
Women's 100 Fly
Olivia Peoples finished tied for first at 52.60, while Talia Bates narrowly missed the top spot with a 52.90 and second place finish.
 
Men's 100 Fly
Joshua Liendo continued his reign across collegiate swimming, finishing first with a 45.79 time, good for seventh in program history, and the top spot. Eric Friese finished in fourth, while Jace Crawford came in seventh.
 
Women's 200 Free
It was a clean sweep for Florida, with Ekaterina Nikonova the first to touch the wall at 1:45.12, ahead of Katie Mack at 1:45.38 and Micayla Cronk's 1:45.54.
 
Men's 200 Free
Alfonso Mestre placed third at 1:33.24, ahead of Macguire McDuff's fourth-place finish. Oskar Lindholm finished seventh in the A-final.
 
Women's 100 Breast
Olivia Peoples continued her busy stretch, finishing sixth at 1:02.08.
 
Men's 100 Breast
Florida placed three in the top-five, led by Julian Smith in second at 51.76 and Aleksas Savickas' 51.88 time for third. Dillon Hillis came in fifth with a 52.60. The trio all secured B-cut times.
 
Women's 100 Back
Aris Runnels finished in the top spot of the B-final at 53.11, a time that was sixth-fastest in the final session.
 
Men's 100 Back
Cameron Abaqueta finished 16th overall in the finals as the lone Gator in the event.
 
Women's 1-meter diving
Maha Amer registered a second-place finish at 294.65 in the finals after putting up a 309.80 in the prelims. Carina Lumia finished third, with Elettra Neroni in sixth.
 
Men's 3-meter diving
Anton Svirskyi finished on top, posting a 390.90, over twenty points ahead of second place. Elisha Dees earned a 347.15 for a top-five finish.
 
Women's 800 Free Relay
Florida's A team of Talia Bates, Micayla Cronk, Ekaterina Nikonova, and Katie Mack recorded a second-place finish, just ahead of Tylor Mathieu, Kathleen Golding, Hayden Miller, and Elise Bauer who came in fourth.
 
Men's 800 Free Relay
Florida finished with two of the top-three times. Posting a B-cut time of 6:18.45, the squad of Julian Smith, Joshua Liendo, Macguire McDuff, and Alfonso Mestre finished first. Joaquin Gonzalez Pinero, Oskar Lindholm, Jake Mitchell, and Alberto Mestre finished third with a B-cut time of 6:20.03.
 
Prelims:
Women's 400 IM
Mabel Zavaros claimed fourth, one of four Gators to advance to the A final (Kathleen Golding, Anna Auld, Zoe Dixon).
 
Men's 400 IM
Florida went one-two, with Kevin Vargas taking the top spot at 3:44.54, while Mason Laur finished behind him at 3:45.17.
 
Women's 100 Fly
Olivia Peoples won the prelim with a 52.73, while Talia Bates (5th) and Ekaterina Nikonova (6th) also advanced to the A-final.
 
Men's 100 Fly
Joshua Liendo touched the wall in 46.01, passing Ryan Lochte for 10th all-time in Florida history, and finished atop the leaderboard. Eric Freise finished third at 46.49, while Jace Crawford claimed the final A-final spot.
 
Women's 200 Free
The Gators swept the 200 free, led by Micayla Cronk's first place finish and 1:45.22 time. Nikonova finished second, with Katie Mack coming in third. Tylor Mathieu placed sixth, as four Gators advanced to the A-final.
 
Men's 200 Free
Macguire McDuff posted the top-time in the session, finishing just off his career high with a 1:33.68. Alfonso Mestre, Liendo, and Oskar Lindholm all qualified for the A-final. Florida competed 14 total swimmers in the event.
 
Women's 100 Breast
The lone Gator in the event, Olivia Peoples finished fifth at 1:01.19.
 
Men's 100 Breast
Julian Smith and Aleksas Savickas finished ahead of the rest of the field, with Smith's 51.60 time being a career-best.
 
Women's 100 Back
Katie Mack qualified for the A-final, finishing in 53.58, while Aris Runnels finished in 10th, followed by Mary Kate Kelley in 15th.
 
Men's 100 Back
Cameron Abaqueta was the only Florida swimmer in the event, finishing in 16th for a B-final qualification.
