GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Following a promising fall campaign, select Florida men's and women's swimming and diving team members will head north to compete in the 2022 Toyota U.S. Open from Nov. 30 – Dec.3 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, NC. Competition begins Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. Thursday-Saturday prelims will begin at 9 a.m. with finals starting at 6 p.m.
The Gators will send 14 current swimmers, one former (Mark Szaranek), and volunteer coach Katie Ledecky, while five members from the 2023 signing class will also compete in the long-course meter event sessions, giving the group opportunities to race in an Olympic sized pool. The first day of competition will mark the first day that the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials-Swimming time standards are open, adding an additional layer to the event.
Ledecky highlights the meet with four entries, including the 800m free on the opening day Wednesday. The Gators volunteer coach owns the top 29 fastest times in the event.
Zoe Dixon, who was named SEC Women's Freshman of the Week on Nov. 1, will compete in four events, while Amanda Ray will race in three.
Florida will have 12 men compete, with Alfonso Mestre and Eric Brown competing in the 800m free on Wednesday.
Jake Mitchell, Oskar Lindholm, Joshua Liendo, Alberto Mestre, Eric Friese, Kevin Vargas, Joaquin Gonzalez Pinero and Szaranek will open up their competition on Thursday with the 400m free, 200m IM, and 50m free.
Raphael Rached Windmuller and Aleksas Savickas will both compete in the 100m and 200m breast, beginning with the 100m breast on Friday and 200m on Saturday.
Florida also have five future Gators competing, as a handful of the 2023 signing class will look to make a mark. Amadeusz Knop, Caleb Maldari, Josh Parent, Michaela Mattes, and Grace Rainey all will compete in at least three events.
Thursday and Friday's finals will be streamed live on Peacock starting at 6 p.m. All prelims as well as Wednesday and Saturday finals will be streamed on usaswimming.org/watch.
