
Gators Send 12 to Finals on Day 4 of SEC Championships

11 of the 12 Florida swimmers and one of the two divers that competed in the prelim session earned a spot in finals on Friday night

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Of the 12 swimmers and two divers the Gators had compete in the prelim session on Friday morning, 12 of them earned their way into the finals – including four set to compete in championship finals.
During the prelim session, the Gators also tallied one A-cut qualifying time and 10 B-cut times, as well as two Zone qualifying scores.
Three UF women swam their way into either the championship or the consolation finals of the 200 fly. Amanda Ray led the way, earning the 8th seed overall and a spot in the A-Final with her 1:57.17 performance. Mabel Zavaros followed with a 1:57.89 swim to find herself in Friday night's B-Final, while Allie Piccirillo rounded out the field with a time of 1:59.03 to place herself in the C-Final.
Similar to the women's 200 fly, all three men that competed secured spots in the finals session. Jace Crawford put up a 1:42.57-effort to earn his spot in the championship final, while Joaquin Gonzalez-Pinero (1:43.93) and Mason Laur (1:45.19) each swam their way into the B-Final.
Rosie Zavaros earned an appearance in the C-Final of the women's 100 backstroke after recording a B-cut time of 53.62.
Adam Chaney was the lone Florida competitor in the men's 100 backstroke prelim in which he claimed the top-seed in Friday night's final after notching an A-Cut time of 44.91. He topped the No. 2 seed by nearly eight-tenths of a second.
In the women's 100 breaststroke, Olivia Peoples notched a spot in the C-Final after a swim of 1:01.17 in the second heat.
Over on the men's side, both Gators that swam in the 100 breaststroke prelims on Friday morning earned a spot in the B-Final: Amro Al-Wir (52.69) and Julian Smith (52.82).
Leonardo Garcia punched his ticket to the men's platform final after posting a Zone qualifying score of 385.55 to finish fourth overall. Anton Svirskyi also added crucial points for the Gators, finishing 10th overall with a score of 316.95.
