BELGRADE, Serbia – Three former Florida athletes made the finals of their respective events at this weekend's World Indoor Championships with Grant Holloway (60mH) and Marquis Dendy (Long Jump) picking up gold and bronze medals respectively.
Benjamin Lobo Vedel was fourth in the 400 meters while setting a Danish National Indoor Record (45.67).
Dendy set a season best of 8.27m on his third attempt Friday which was good enough for third place and a bronze medal. This was Dendy's third medal at the World Indoor Championships in the Long Jump. He won the competition in Portland, Ore. in 2016 and took bronze in the 2018 edition in Birmingham, United Kingdom.
The Wilmington, Delaware native was Florida's first-ever winner of The Bowerman in 2015 and was a seven-time national champion with the Gators.
Holloway continued his dominant control of the 60-meter hurdles by running 7.39 in the finals, his third race of the day, to capture his first gold medal at the World Indoor Championships.
The Chesapeake, Virginia native matched his own world record (7.29) in the semifinals before cruising to the title later in the day.
Holloway was the silver medalist at the 2020 Olympics in the 110-meter hurdles and the 2019 World Champion in the 110-meter hurdles. The 2019 Bowerman Winner won eight individual national titles in his Florida career and was a member of three National Championship teams as a Gator.
The 2022 World Athletics Championships will take place in Eugene, Ore. this July with a number of Gators expected to participate.
