Gators Wrap Up 2022 FINA World Championships

Florida finishes with nine medals, including eight golds
BUDAPEST, Hungary – The Florida Gators left a lasting impact at the 2022 FINA World Championships, exiting Budapest with nine total medals, eight of them gold. Volunteer coach Katie Ledecky continued her historic career, securing four medals last week, while Caeleb Dressel won two gold medals on the first two days of the championships.
Bobby Finke and Kieran Smith both earned medals during their stay. Finke won gold in the 800m free and silver in the 1,500m free. The Clearwater, Florida native set the American record in both races. Smith won gold in the 4x200m free relay, and finished sixth in the 200m free.
During today's 10m platform diving prelims, Leonardo Garcia placed 22nd with a score of 336.60. He was the final Gator to compete at this year's FINA World Championships.
10m Platform Diving
In his second event of the week, Leonardo Garcia was less then 20 points from qualifying for the 10m platform semifinals. Garcia, who was representing his home country of Colombia, finished 11th in the mixed 3m and 10m diving finals on Wednesday.
The 2022 FINA World Championships conclude tomorrow.
