No. 5/6 Gators Send 27 to Thursday Night Finals

Florida leads the team standings in both men's and women's

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 5/6 Florida men's and women's swimming and diving teams will send 27 swimmers to Thursday night's SEC Championships, including 11 in the A-finals.
 
Emma Weyant continued her strong SEC Championship performance, finishing first in the women's 400 IM prelims at 4:06.44, the seventh-fastest time in Florida history. Weyant will be joined by Mabel Zavaros (3rd – 4:07.81) and Kathleen Golding (5th – 4:08.88) in the A-final. Zoe Dixon and Anna Auld will compete in the B-final, while Amanda Ray and Allie Piccirillo will race in the C-final.

On the men's side, six Gators qualified for the men's 200 IM finals. Mason Laur, who swam the eight-fastest time in Florida history at 3:40.18, will be in lane five for the A-final, while Giovanni Linscheer, who dropped 6.57 seconds off his season-best time this season, finished sixth at 3:41.99 for A-final qualification. The Gators will have Joaquin Gonzalez Pinero, Kevin Vargas, Tyler Watson, and Eric Brown all swim in the B-final.

Olivia Peoples moved up from eighth to fifth on Florida's all-time women's 100 fly list, swimming a 52.08 to secure a spot in the A-final. Aris Runnels dropped a second on her seeded time, and will swim in the B-final.

Freshman Joshua Liendo etched his name in Florida history once again, swimming the second-fastest 100 fly time of 44.34 during the prelims. Liendo cut 1.45 seconds off his previous best, and will swim in lane five tonight. Jace Crawford and Eric Friese will compete in the B-final this evening.

The Gators qualified three for the women's 200 free A final after finishing one-two-three in the prelims. Micayla Cronk posted the sixth-fastest time in program history at 1:44.17for third, while Ekaterina Nikonova'a 1:44.42 put her in fourth. Talia Bates will look for another medal this evening after swimming a 1:45.01 for fifth. Katie Mack and Tylor Mathieu will represent Florida in the C final.

Macguire McDuff clocked a top-10 200 free time in Gators history at 1:32.45 to finish third in the prelims for A final qualification. Jake Mitchell and Alfonso Mestre will compete in the B final, while Oskar Lindholm will swim in the C final for Florida.

Skip Donald led the way in the men's 3-meter finishing 12th with a 323.00, a spot ahead of Leonardo Garcia's 310.55 and 13th place finish. Anton Svirskyi's 276.00 put him in 23rd.
