No. 5/6 Florida Qualifies 13 for Friday Night Finals

Aleksas Savickas posts top 100 breast time in the nation during prelims

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 5/6 Florida men's and women's swimming and diving teams qualified 12 for Friday night's SEC Championships.
 
The Gators, who are in first on both the men's and women's side, have nine swimmers in A-finals and three in B-finals, a diver in the platform final, and two teams in the 400 medley relay. Florida will look to add on to their 16 medals so far this week.

The men claimed the top seed in all three events this morning (200 fly, 100 back, 100 breast).
 
Amanda Ray led off the day with a 1:56.11 in the women's 200 fly prelims to qualify for the A-final. Allie Piccirillo narrowly missed tonight's top final, but will swim in lane four of the B-final after a ninth-place finish at 1:57.05. Kathleen Golding will join in the B-final after clocking a 1:58.38.

Joaquin Gonzalez Pinero posted the top time of the morning in the men's 200 fly prelims, clocking a 1:42.77, the seventh-fastest time posted this season. Mason Laur will get a chance at medaling following a 1:42.77, while Jace Crawford will be in lane four during tonight's B-final.

The lone Gator in the women's 100 back prelims, Aris Runnels posted the fifth-fastest 100 back time in Florida history at 52.06 to qualify for the A final this evening.

The school record holder in the men's 100 back, Adam Chaney will look to defend his SEC title in tonight's A final after touching the wall in 44.64, the fastest-time in the prelims.

Nina Kucheran, who was recently named to the SEC Community Service Team, clocked a 59.44 in the 100 breast prelims, shaving two seconds off her season-best, to secure an A-final qualification. Olivia Peoples finished 26th with a B-cut time of 1:01.27, and is an alternate for tonight's finals.

Aleksas Savickas recorded the fastest 100 breast time in the nation this year at 50.73 to earn the top seed in tonight's men's 100 breast A-final. Dillon Hillis finished .17 of a second behind Savickas in second, while Julian Smith finished fourth at 51.52, giving Florida three with a chance to medal tonight.

Carina Lumia became the second Gator diver to qualify for a final this week, using a score of 250.15 to take seventh and obtain a spot in the final tonight. Maha Amer finished 12th at 237.5, while Elettra Neroni's 202.45 put her in 19th.

Friday's finals are set for a 6:30 p.m. (ET) start on SECN+.
