
Fukuoka 2023 – Liendo Advances to 100m Fly Finals After Posting Third Fastest Time

Joshua Liendo swims a 50.75 in the 100-meter Butterfly Semifinals.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Rising sophomore, Joshua Liendo, advanced to the 100-meter Butterfly Semifinals after swimming a 50.75 Friday morning to take his heat and post the third-fastest time in the semifinals at World Aquatics Championships. The SEC Freshman of the year has the chance to become the first Canadian swimmer to win a world championship gold medal since 2007.
Liendo also qualified for the 50m Freestyle Finals after shaving .05 off his prelim time to clock a 21.88 in the semifinals, but opted out to focus on the 100m fly.
Men's 50m Freestyle:
Alberto Mestre, representing Venezuela, cruised to a 22.32 in the prelims to finish sixth in his heat on Thursday night.
Men's 100m Butterfly:
Eric Friese, representing Germany, recorded a 53.02 in the 100m fly prelims Thursday night. The 2023 graduate finished 10th in his heat.
Men's 200m Breaststroke:
Representing Lithuania, Aleksas Savickas, set a personal best to advance to the semifinals with a 2:09.66 on Wednesday night. The rising sophomore swam a 2:10.16 to finish 11th overall in the semifinals Thursday morning. Amro Al-Wir, representing Jordan, clocked a 2:12.90 in the prelims to finish 10th in his heat.
Eric Brown, representing Canada, Aryan Nehra, representing India, Alfonso Mestre, representing Venezuela and Bobby Finke, representing USA, are set to compete in the 1500m Freestyle entries tonight at 9:30 p.m. ET.
