Fukuoka 2023 – Liendo Sets Canadian Record in 100m Fly

Joshua Liendo wins silver after swimming a 50.34 Saturday morning.
 
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Rising sophomore, Joshua Liendo, earned a silver medal in the 100-meter Butterfly Finals after swimming a 50.34 Saturday morning at the World Aquatics Championships. The SEC Freshman of the Year shaved off .41 seconds off of his semifinal time (50.75) to set a new Canadian record in the event as well as a new personal best.  
 
"It was awesome. Close race, had fun, it was a great field," Liendo told CBC Sports' Devin Heroux.
 
Men's 1500m Freestyle:
Bobby Finke, representing USA, advanced to the 1500m Free Finals after clocking a 14:43.06 to win his heat. The former Gator posted the fastest time overall in the prelims and is set to swim in the finals Sunday morning.
 
2023 Graduate, Alfonso Mestre, set a new personal best in the 1500m free after swimming a 15:14.10 to place third in his heat. Rising junior, Aryan Nehra, posted a 15:39.47 to finish in sixth.
