Fukuoka 2023 – Finke Sets New American Record in 1500m Freestyle

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Bobby Finke set a new American record after cruising to a 14:31.59 in the men's 1500m freestyle to win silver in the final day of World Aquatic Championships Sunday morning. The former Gator beat his own record time from the 2022 Worlds by over five seconds (14:36.70).

Finke became the third-fastest swimmer of all time in the event, after finishing .05 seconds off Ahmed Hafnaoui (Tunisia) who came in first with 14:31.54. The two swimmers were just over half a second off of the world record time of 14:31.02, which Sun Yang set in 2012.

Finke also set a new American record in the 800m free on July 26^th after clocking a 7:38.67 to earn a trip to the podium for Bronze.
