Saturday, January 27, 2024 | Baseball
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – University of Florida two-way star Jac Caglianone was named the SEC Preseason Player of the Year by D1Baseball on Friday evening.
The nod represents yet another winter accolade for Caglianone, who was named Perfect Game's Preseason Two-Way Player of the year as well as a Preseason First Team All-American earlier this month. The junior first baseman/left-handed pitcher also profiles as a top-five overall prospect for the 2024 MLB Draft after finishing his sophomore campaign as a finalist for the Golden Spikes Award, Dick Howser Trophy and John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award.
Caglianone bopped an NCAA-leading and program-record 33 homers last season while slashing .323/.389/.738. The Tampa, Fla. product also set the team record with 90 RBI and was the lone Gator to play in and start all 71 games as Florida made a deep run to the College World Series Finals. The southpaw also delivered a 7-4 record, 4.34 ERA, .190 batting average against and 87 strikeouts across 18 starts spanning 74 2/3 frames.
