Getting the start on the bump in the 2024 Meet the Gators series is right-handed pitcher Aidan King of Jacksonville, Fla. King will wear No. 47 in Orange & Blue.
Competing under head coach Zach Osbeck, King produced four dominant years at Bishop John J. Snyder High School. He posted a sub-2.10 ERA while totaling 47-plus innings in all four seasons. All told, King pitched to a stellar 1.64 ERA and .187 batting average against with 368 strikeouts across 221 1/3 varsity frames – good for 15.0 strikeouts per nine. He walked just 54 of the 905 batters he faced.
The right-hander's best campaign came as a senior, when he chucked 72 1/3 innings of 1.06 ERA ball and held opposing hitters to a .150 batting average to help Bishop Snyder to an impressive 20-9 record. King fanned 144 batters against just 10 walks, translating to 17.9 K/9, 1.2 BB/9 and a 14.4 K-to-BB ratio.
His signature moment came in the Region 1-3A quarterfinals vs. Providence, when he struck out 20 of 24 batters he faced to earn the victory. By season's end, King had more strikeouts than any player in the state and earned All-First Coast Player of the Year honors.
Although he will solely pitch for the Gators, King also showcased an ability to handle the bat as a prepster. Hitting over .300 in each of his final three seasons, King slashed .301/.469/.393 over 239 at bats highlighted by two homers, 16 doubles and 17 stolen bases.
As the No. 432 overall player in his recruiting class per Perfect Game, King held status as the No. 66 recruit and No. 13 right-hander in Florida. He also suited up for 5 Star National Black during his high school years.
Prior to arriving in Gator Country, King collected 18 all-tournament team accolades at various PG events. He was named a Preseason All-Region Second Team recipient in advance of his junior and senior campaigns.
