With the 2024 Major League Baseball season officially in the books, it is time to check in on how various Gators performed across the professional ranks.
All told, 32 different former Florida players were active during the campaign highlighted by 14 players who appeared in The Show. Three Gators made their MLB debuts in outfielder
Wyatt Langford, right-hander
Christian Scott and righty
Hurston Waldrep.
The Orange & Blue boasts a lengthy history of producing MLB talent, as 84 Gators have reached the sport's ultimate level. Dating back to the start of Head Coach Kevin O'Sullivan's tenure in 2008, a nation-leading 33 Gators have made it to The Bigs.
Gators in the MLB
Pete Alonso | 1B | New York Mets | UF 2014-16
2024: .240/.329/.459, 34 HR, 31 2B, 91 R, 88 RBI, 3 SB
As one of just four MLB players to appear in all 162 games, Alonso finished with 34 home runs and 88 RBI as the Mets advanced all the way to the National League Championship Series. Alonso has now blasted 34 or more homers in each of his five-full seasons for a career total of 226, which ranks third-most all-time through a player's first six campaigns behind only Ralph Kiner (257) and Albert Pujols (250). He also made his fourth-career All-Star Game.
Shaun Anderson | RHP | Miami Marlins| UF 2014-16
2024: 0-2, 8.27 ERA, 2.14 WHIP, 6 G, 2 GS, 0 SV, 16.1 IP, 1 BB, 10 K
Anderson bounced between the Philadelphia Phillies, Texas Rangers and Marlins organizations before finding a home in Miami. Although Anderson struggled at the big-league level, he pitched to a 3.00 ERA and 1.21 WHIP across 63 Triple-A innings with Texas and Miami.
Harrison Bader | OF | New York Mets| UF 2013-15
2024: .236/.284/.373, 12 HR, 19 2B, 57 R, 51 RBI, 17 SB
As a major cog in the Mets' memorable postseason run, Bader played in 140 games this past season – all in center field. He produced a .986 fielding percentage in addition to a career-high 51 RBI at the plate. Bader also smacked 31 extra-base hits, good for the second-best total of his career.
Anthony DeSclafani | RHP | San Francisco Giants | UF 2009-11
2024: DNP
DeSclafani underwent right flexor tendon surgery in late March and missed the entirety of the season.
Dane Dunning | RHP | Texas Rangers | UF 2014-16
2024: 5-7, 5.31 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, 26 G, 15 GS, 95.0 IP, 40 BB, 91 K
Throwing 95 innings for the Rangers, Dunning also saw time in the Minors as he worked to regain his 2023 form. Of his 31 appearances across all levels, 21 were starts. Dunning concluded with an 8.6 strikeouts per nine and 3.8 walks per nine with Texas.
Alex Faedo | RHP | Detroit Tigers | UF 2015-17
2024: 5-3, 3.61 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, 37 G, 6 GS, 57.1 IP, 28 BB, 55 K
Enjoying a breakout season on the hill, Faedo set career bests with five wins, 37 appearances and a 3.61 ERA. He worked primarily out of the bullpen, making six starts and delivering an excellent 113 ERA+. His performance played a vital role in the Tigers reaching the postseason for the first time since 2014.
Jonathan India | INF | Cincinnati Reds | UF 2016-18
2024: .248/.357/.392, 15 HR, 2 3B, 28 2B, 84 R, 58 RBI, 13 SB
In his fourth season with Cincinnati, India played in a career-high 151 games. The former NL Rookie of the Year recorded 1.7 wins above replacement and a 105 OPS+ while ranking third and fourth in the NL with 80 walks and 15 hit-by-pitches, respectively.
Jackson Kowar | RHP | Seattle Mariners | UF 2016-18
2024: DNP
Kowar underwent Tommy John surgery in March to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament and missed all of the 2024 season.
Wyatt Langford | OF | Texas Rangers | UF 2021-23
2024: .253/.325/.415, 16 HR, 4 3B, 25 2B, 74 R, 74 RBI, 19 SB
As a top candidate for American League Rookie of the Year honors, Langford broke onto the scene in a major way. He was twice named AL Rookie of the Month (June & September) and took home AL Player of the Month honors in September. Langford finished top seven among all rookies in hits, homers, doubles, runs, RBI, walks and stolen bases. If that was not enough, he became the first player in MLB history to hit for the cycle, launch a walk-off grand slam and swat an inside-the-park homer in the same season.
A.J. Puk | LHP | Arizona Diamondbacks | UF 2014-16
2024: 4-9, 3.15 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 62 G, 4 GS, 3 SV, 71.1 IP, 28 BB, 88 K
After being traded to Arizona from Miami on July 27, Puk performed like a man possessed. Across 30 appearances with the Diamondbacks, Puk pitched to a minuscule 1.32 ERA and 0.73 WHIP, highlighted by 43 strikeouts against five walks in 27 1/3 frames. Following the move, Puk registered an eye-popping 14.2 K/9 and 1.6 BB/9.
Christian Scott | RHP | New York Mets | UF 2019-21
2024: 0-3, 4.56 ERA, 1.204 WHIP, 9 G, 9 GS, 47.1 IP, 12 BB, 39 K
Scott debuted on May 4 and went on to provide 47 1/3 innings for the Mets before being shut down due to injury. Prior to getting the call, Scott went 3-0 with a 3.20 ERA and 0.71 WHIP with 36 strikeouts in 25 1/3 innings pitched across five starts for Triple-A Syracuse.
Brady Singer | RHP | Kansas City Royals | UF 2016-18
2024: 9-13, 3.71 ERA, 1.275 WHIP, 32 G, 32 GS, 179.2 IP, 54 BB, 170 K
Singer represents another Gator coming off a career campaign, having set personal bests in both innings pitched and strikeouts. His 32 games started ranked sixth in the AL while his 15 starts with one earned run or less was among tops in all of baseball. Singer's performance helped lift Kansas City to their first playoff berth since 2015.
Kirby Snead | LHP | Seattle Mariners | UF 2014-16
2024: 0-0, 4.35 ERA, 1.839 WHIP, 11 G, 0 GS, 0 SV, 10.1 IP, 7 BB, 7 K
Spending the entire year with Seattle, Snead saw time both with the big-league club and Triple-A Tacoma. After being designated for assignment and outrighted to Triple-A on June 15, Snead elected to enter free agency at the conclusion of the regular season on Oct. 1.
Hurston Waldrep | RHP | Atlanta Braves | UF 2023
2024: 0-1, 16.71 ERA, 2 G, 2 GS, 7.0 IP, 8 BB, 2.429 WHIP
Waldrep became the 84th MLB Gator on June 9, getting the start for Atlanta against the Washington Nationals in D.C. He made just two starts for the Braves, as the bulk of his workload came in the Minor Leagues. Waldrep churned out a 3.47 ERA and 97 strikeouts in 93 1/3 MiLB inning this past year.
Danny Young | RHP | New York Mets | UF 2013-15
2024: 4-1, 4.54 ERA, 42 G, 37.2 IP, 18 BB, 1.248 WHIP
Finding a home in the Mets bullpen, Young experienced his best MLB season to date. He blew away each of his career highs in wins, appearances, innings and strikeouts to help the Mets to the NLCS. Metrics indicated he was even better than his numbers, as evidenced by a 3.64 FIP.
Jacob Young | OF| Washington Nationals | UF 2019-21
2024: .256/.316/.331, 3 HR, 1 3B, 24 2B, 75 R, 36 RBI, 33 SB
Young was named an NL Gold Glove Finalist in center field in his first-full MLB season, leading the NL and ranking second in the sport with 20 outs above average. Due to his defensive prowess, Young compiled a strong 2.6 WAR. He also stole 33 bags to rank fifth in the NL and 11th in the MLB while playing in 150 games for the Nats.
