Finke Sweeps Men’s Distance Events; Greenberg Records Top-10 Finish on Final Day of U.S. Olympic Swimming & Diving Trials

Bobby Finke won his second long-distance event after finishing first in the 1500m free, while Casey Greenberg placed tenth overall on platform.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – On the final day of competition at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Swimming and Diving Trials, Bobby Finke defended his 1500m free title after coasting to first on Sunday night inside Lucas Oil Stadium. The former Gator's 14:40.28 reset the U.S. Open Record he recorded last June.

In Knoxville, Tenn., Casey Greenberg represented Florida diving in the women's platform final. She concluded her notable-trials performance with a 495.20 combined-score to finish tenth in the U.S.

Competing one lane over from Finke was Luke Whitlock. The incoming Gator finished third after clocking a 14:52.00. Although Whitlock didn't place in the top-two tonight, Team USA officially named Luke Whitlock to the Olympic Team on last night. He placed second in the 800m free on Tuesday after touching the wall in 7:45.19 for his first Olympic Berth. HOW IT HAPPENED - FINALS SESSION
Men's 1500m Free – Results
Bobby Finke swept the men's long-distance competition after finishing 12 seconds ahead of second. Finke's 14:40.28 resets the U.S. Open Record he set at U.S. Nationals. The UF Alum is set to compete in the men's 800m free and 1500m free in Paris. Swimming in lane six, Whitlock dropped over 14 seconds off his previous-best to stop the clock in 14:53.00. The newly-named Olympian recorded his first sub-15 after going head-to-head with David Johnston for second place. Coming into the final 100 meters, Whitlock sped up to Johnston for a chance to take second, but fell short to finish third.

COMPLETE LIST OF GATORS WHO HAVE PUNCHED THEIR TICKET TO PARIS: UP NEXT
Swimming at the 2024 Olympic Games will be held at the Paris La Defense Arena, located in the city of Nanterre. Indoor swimming kicks off July 27 and runs through August 4; in total, 35 medal events will be competed. Olympic swimming competition concludes with the men's and women's open water (10km marathon swimming) races taking place August 8-9. The full Team USA roster for the Olympic Games Paris 2024 will be confirmed in July.

OLYMPIC QUALIFYING TIMES:
For individual events at the Paris Games, there are two types – Olympic Qualifying Time (OQT) and Olympic Consideration TIME (OCT), per World Aquatics. Swimmers who match or better the OQT in one or more individual events, qualify for Olympic competition automatically. Participating countries may enter two (2) athletes in the same event, only if both swimmers' times are equivalent or under the OQT. The OCT threshold works differently. Should the OQT not yield a quota of 852 total swimmers, "World Aquatics will then invite athletes who have equaled or bettered an OCT, until the total quota of 852 athletes is reached."
