Wednesday, July 10, 2024 | Baseball
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Florida baseball team tied the program record with 27 total student-athletes on the 2024 Southeastern Conference Spring Academic and First-Year Honor Rolls, as announced this week by the SEC office.
Baseball's 27 total student-athletes on SEC Academic Honor Rolls (Regular and First-Year) ties last year's total for the most in program history. Exactly 75% of Florida's 2024 roster was honored for their academic performance, with 13 on the SEC Academic Honor Roll and another 14 on the First-Year Honor Roll.
Florida's success in the classroom was led by 2024 Two-Way Player of the Year Jac Caglianone, who was named a First Team Academic All-American as well as the NCAA Division I Academic All-America Team Member of the Year by the College Sports Communicators. Caglianone was also honored as a Unanimous First Team All-American on the field in addition to collecting a First-Team All-SEC nod. He was joined on the All-SEC team by rookie hurler and SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll recipient Liam Peterson, who was a Freshman All-SEC standout on the mound.
The 2024 SEC Spring Academic Honor Rolls are based on grades from the 2023-24 summer, fall and spring terms. Grades from the 2023-24 academic year determine the 2024 SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll.
In total, Florida had a program-record 433 total student-athletes named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll in a single season. The record has been reset twice since 2020-21 (378 in 2020-21 and 2021-22 and 410 for 2022-23 academic year). Florida landed 312 on SEC Academic Honor Rolls (137 on fall list; 64 winter, 111 on spring) and 121 on the First-Year Honor Roll.
To be recognized to the SEC Academic Honor Roll, each student-athlete must 1) have a GPA of 3.00 for either the preceding academic year or have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship, a letterwinner or have participated on a varsity team for two years if non-scholarship; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport's entire NCAA Championship segment.
To be recognized to the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll, each student-athlete must 1) have a GPA of 3.00 for either the preceding academic year or have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship, a letterwinner; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport's entire NCAA Championship segment.
